I formatted my 4GB pendrive to FAT format, and can only use 100MB of it. Am I doing something wrong?
Unfortunately, FAT can only support up to 2GB for removable devices. Anything exceeding 2GB must be formatted in FAT32 mode.

I can not secure my Filemate pen drive with login and password. I also could not find any documentation to direct me on how to use the utility.
You can find the instructions on the bottom of the webpage labeled “password security user manual.’’ The default password is “0000” after partitioning.

I lost the password of "USB Flash disk utility.” How do I reset the utility software configuration?
The secure partition cannot be recovered if the password is lost. That is why it is vital to have the hint. You can only access the public area. The only way is to return to manufacturer and have them reformat it.

Nothing happens after I plug in the thumb drive.
First, make sure the USB driver is installed by running a full Windows Update. (For Windows 98SE download the driver via

Second, try plugging the USB directly into the computer instead of via an extension cord.

Windows keep on asking me to format the thumb drive.
The thumb drive should be already formatted. If windows ask to format more than once, please return directly to your vendor for the fastest processing time.

Do I need any driver’s for filemate pen-drives to operate correctly in my system?
For the majority of Operating Systems that are in use today, no additional drivers are required in order for the Filemate range of USB pen drives to operate. For the case of Windows 98 SE, applicable drivers are available for download from the product information page on this website.

What sizes / capacities is filemate available in?
Filemate Rays and Filemate Pro are available in densities ranging from 64MB, all the way up to 4GB. Filemate Mini and Filemate Mini-Pro are available in densities from 64MB up to 4GB.

Can I get customized colors or cases?
Yes, in this case, the most options are available for Filemate Rays. Check the downloadable specifications sheets and website information for each brand to see more detailed information as to what is available.

Is it fully compliant with USB v.2.0?
Yes - all of the Filemate USB pen drives are fully V2.0 compliant and are backward compatible with v1.1

What is ‘drive partitioning’?
Drive partitioning involves programming the drive so that when inserted into a USB drive socket, the computer system sees it as being separate, independent drives. For example, partitioning into 2 drives evenly on a 512MB drive will result in the computer system into which the drive is inserted seeing 2 independent 256MB disk drives.

Will filemate USB pen-drives work on Apple Mac systems?
Yes - Filemate USB pen drives are fully compatible with Apple systems.

Is there any kind of warranty available for filemate USB pen drives?
Filemate comes with a 5 years warranty on all parts.

What is the read/write speed?
That depends on which Filemate product you are using. For exact figures, check the specification sheet for each individual product.

Why do I get an error message "disk is full" when I try to copy a single file larger than 4GB on a 8GB drive?
The USB drive is formatted using FAT32, and the maximum single file size is 4GB minus 2 bytes.

How do I copy a single file larger than 4GB on a 8GB+ drive?
You can reformat your drive using NTFS system, but doing so will make your pen drive incompatible with DOS, Windows 98, and Windows ME.
